L.A. Is Celebrating The Unveiling Of Obama Boulevard With A Day-Long Festival

The official unveiling for Obama Boulevard will be held on May 4!

The 3.5-mile stretch currently known as Rodeo Road, between Mid-City and Culver City, is set to be renamed after the 44th U.S. President!

On Saturday, May 4, Obama Boulevard will join adjoining streets named after other former chief executives George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson – this area in L.A. will now be called “Presidential Row.”

In celebration of the street’s name change, the city is throwing a free street festival from noon to 6 p.m. in the area where Obama Boulevard intersects with Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The daylong party will feature live music with special performances from Doug E. Fresh, Yo-Yo, BJ the Chicago Kid, Battlecat and Kurrupt, as well as food trucks and various activities. The official unveiling of the new Obama Boulevard street signs will begin at 5 p.m! Mayor Eric Garcetti, Representative Karen Bass, and L.A. City Council President Herb Wesson will be on hand for the ceremony.

“I’m thrilled that Los Angeles will be home to Obama Boulevard,” Wesson said in a statement to KCAL 9. “Our history is important and this is one way that we will ensure that America’s 44th President’s legacy is shared for generations to come for Angelenos and visitors alike.”

The event is free, but you will need a ticket to join the festivities – click here to get yours!

This is a second time that Los Angeles has named apart of the city after 44. Last year a portion of the 134 Freeway was designated as President Barack H. Obama Highway.
