If heaven was a place on earth…
Perched atop a steep hill in the Santa Monica Mountains is this Tuscan-style villa with an infinity pool overlooking the lush cascading rows of vines on the 37-acre plot. The uniquely located vineyard surrounded by volcanic soil, is situated at 2,000 feet allowing for exceptional drainage and sun exposure. The resulting Mediterranean microclimate creates the highly coveted flavors and aromas of Malibu Rocky Oaks Estate Vineyard’s wines are irreplaceable due to new local government laws.
Walk amongst the clouds when you step out on to the second-floor balcony, the peaks of the hills floating in a white blanket soaked in warm sunlight is the closest you’ll come to heaven on earth. But the experience is strictly reserved for private functions or overnight stays that come with a rather hefty price tag. Although, their tasting room is set to open to the public soon, according to their website.
If you’re lucky enough to the on the guest list of a private event here or you managed to remortgage the house for a night of bliss, you’ll wake up to your morning tea surrounded by the award-winning Cabernet Franc. Of course, if you’re able to fit the $10,000 per night bill you’ll be pleased to know that you can skip the traffic, fly up and land on the helicopter pad if you wish.
Sipping on the rare wines while taking in the sweeping views and breathtaking sunsets at this California gem is the height of luxury. You can spend the day hiking around the vineyards, dipping into the pool or take a trip down the winding roads to Zuma Beach just a stone’s throw away. Nobu Malibu and Soho House are also conveniently nearby if that’s your style.
If this isn’t quite in your budget range, you can still get a taste of this scenic paradise through one of their incredible wines. The earthy Cabernet Franc, the silky Rosé, crisp Chardonnay, a rich Cabernet Sauvignon, or the medium-bodied Merlot, all boast international and local accolades. All the grapes are 100% handpicked and handmade in Malibu by the wonderful team of professionals. What makes this taste even sweeter is the fact that the company has a focus on sustainability. Local birds act as natural insecticides, the property borders are permeable allowing wildlife to roam freely through it and barrels are sustainably sourced.
There’s also a wine club (though there’s no information on how you can join it) where you’ll be invited to taste all of the fruits of the land and stomp grapes on the family-owned estate.
