Yesterday the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation announced a list of 14 Performer Nominees to be considered for Induction in 2025. And the Mexican rock band, Maná, is making history for the being the first ever Spanish language band to be nominated.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame states, “Maná opened the doors for Latin music’s global success through their poetic anthems and unique, timeless sound.” And they are “the most popular and influential Latin rock band of all time, selling more albums and concert tickets than any other Latin rock act in history.”
Legends of Mexican Rock
Maná is a Mexican rock band that formed in the 1980s in Guadalajara, Jalisco. The band’s core lineup includes vocalist José Fernando “Fher” Olvera, bassist Juan Calleros, drummer Alex González, and guitarist Sergio Vallín. Their early music was influenced by rock, pop, and reggae, and they made their debut with the album Mana in 1987.
Maná has produced numerous hits throughout their long and illustrious career, many of which have become iconic in Latin rock and pop. Some of their most famous songs include “Rayando el Sol” (1990), “Vivir Sin Aire” (1992), and “Oye Mi Amor” (1992).
Best-Selling and Award-Winning
Maná is considered one of the best-selling Latin Mexican music artists, and the most successful Latin American band of all time with over 25 million records sold worldwide. The band has earned many musical awards, including the following:
- 4 Grammy Awards
- 8 Latin Grammy Awards
- 5 MTV Video Music Awards Latin America
- 6 Premios Juventud awards
- 19 Billboard Latin Music Awards
- 15 Premios Lo Nuestro awards
With this many awards, it comes as no surprise that they are now being nominated into the prestigious Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Beloved by Angelenos
Of course, Maná is the favorite band of many Angelenos. The band even had an unprecedented, one-of-a-kind residency at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles in 2022. It was the first-ever arena residency to take place there.
Hall of Fame Voting Process
A group of over 1,200 international artists, historians, and music industry professionals will vote on the nominees in order to decide who will be inducted into this year’s Hall of Fame. The voters will consider the performer’s complete body of work and influence. Then, the final list of Hall of Fame Inductees will be announced in late April. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is set to take place in Los Angeles in fall 2025.
