The ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles County have caused widespread destruction, displacing families and disrupting daily life. Amid this crisis, the community has rallied together with acts of generosity, from donation drives to volunteer efforts, showing remarkable strength and unity during this difficult time.
To support residents affected by the fires, Metro has announced that it will continue offering free rides on all buses and trains as wildfire conditions persist. This initiative, aimed at ensuring safe and accessible transportation for those in need, was shared by County Supervisor Janice Hahn, who is also chair of the LA Metro Board of Directors.
“Given the threat that the fires and severe winds continue to pose to our region, I’ve authorized @metrolosangeles to continue free fares systemwide while these conditions exist,” Hahn posted on X.
Metro initially suspended fares through the weekend, but the decision to extend free rides ensures that residents can access shelters, deliver donations, or reconnect with loved ones.
Additionally, Metro has created an interactive map that highlights bus and rail routes connected to fire-related resource centers. The map, updated with real-time data from Los Angeles County and CALFIRE, can be accessed here.
This initiative is part of Metro’s commitment to supporting those affected by the fires, ensuring that transportation is not an additional burden during this emergency.
