Metrolink is rolling out a new fare system starting July 1, aiming to make ticket prices easier to understand and more affordable for everyone. Most monthly passes will be cheaper, and new deals are being added to help more people choose public transportation.
One of the biggest changes is a brand-new $5 day pass for the Los Angeles area. This L.A. Zone Day Pass lets you take unlimited same-day trips between eight stations, including Union Station, Cal State L.A., Glendale, Burbank, and both Hollywood Burbank Airport stops. It’s available every day of the week and offers major savings—some of these roundtrips currently cost up to $12.
Metrolink is also updating its popular $15 Summer Day Pass. Starting in July, it’ll be replaced with the SoCal Day Pass, which will be available year-round. It covers unlimited travel across the entire six-county system. The weekday price stays at $15, but weekend rides will now only cost $10.
Monthly passes are getting a refresh too, with most riders saving around 10% compared to current prices. At the same time, Metrolink is getting rid of some of its more confusing ticket options, like the 7-Day Pass, 10-Day Flex Pass, and round-trip tickets (which are just two one-way tickets anyway).
Other updates include a new 10% discount for military veterans and ongoing 50% discounts for riders under 19 and students with valid school IDs. However, the free Student Adventure Pass will end on June 30 as its pilot phase wraps up.
These new fares are part of a six-month pilot program that runs through the end of the year. If it goes well, it could be extended through 2026.
