You can try Texas-style BBQ right here in California at Moo’s Craft Barbecue.
The restaurant began inside the home of Andrew and Michelle Muños, originally just for fun. “It was like a way to blow off steam and not think about the 9 to 5,” Andrew Muños, cofounder of Moo’s Craft Barbecue, tells Secret Los Angeles in an exclusive interview.
After the word spread about the quality of the food, they tried to do one more event out of their house, and the line extended out the door and six blocks down. Today, they have their own restaurant in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood.
“The foundation was always Texas-style barbecue,” explains Michelle Muños.
What to try at Moo’s Craft Barbecue
“If you’re coming to Moo’s, or any Texas-style barbecue joint, go for the brisket first because if they’re not doing brisket right, I’d be sus about everything else,” says Andrew.
The Moo’s BBQ burger has garnered a “wild” cult following here on the eastside of Los Angeles. “We trim our brisket, and the trim that we get we’ll use that in our sausage, and then what’s left we use for the burger.”
A love letter to L.A.
Moo’s Barbecue is happy to be so involved in the L.A. community.
“We’re so freaking lucky to live in this city. I would say it’s the best city in the world. We have the best food. I don’t care where you go,” says Michelle. “We show up for each other.”
So if you’re looking for Texas-style meats, here’s your stop.
“There’s no other city in the world that I would want to live in, and be in, and be from,” concludes Michelle.
