This New Aircraft Will Cut Long Distance Travel Times In Half

Love to travel the world, but hate the traveling part of it all? ✈️

Well, you’re in luck! There’s a new contender in the race to bring supersonic travel back to the masses.

A new airliner engineered by a team of inventors in Denver is in the works called Boom Supersonic. Its travel speed aims to be 2.6x faster than any other commercial aircraft, essentially meaning that the jet will travel at 2.2x the speed of sound (1,451 mph), making it 100mph faster than the Concorde!

Normally, traveling from Los Angeles to Sydney takes at least 14 hours, however, the Boom supersonic can shave off more than half of the regular travel time getting you there in 6 hours and 45 minutes. The supersonic airliner will fly various other routes including:

  • New York to London in 3 hours and 15min (instead of 7hrs)
  • Boston to Madrid in 3hrs and 30min (instead of 7hrs 45min)
  • San Francisco to Tokyo in 5hrs and 30min (instead of 11hrs)
  • Honolulu to Hong Kong in 5hrs and 30min (instead of 11hrs 30min)

Since the service promises to be a luxurious experience with only 55 seats available, you can expect one-way ticket prices to start anywhere around $2,500. The Boom designers promise that tickets will reflect the prices of business class tickets, but it goes without saying that time is money people and it’s clearly not cheap!

It’s reported that 76 aircrafts have already been purchased by five unnamed airlines, and Boom has confirmed that companies such as Japan Airlines and Virgin Group have invested in the project.

If all goes as planned, commercial flights will be available by 2025.
