Ocean Front Walk near Brooks Ave in 1973 by Robin Dunitz | USC Archive via @forgottenmadness_LA on Instagram
Today, we love Venice for its lively beach, gorgeous canals, and its homegrown subcultures from skating, and street art, to music and so much more.
Named originally after the city found in Italy, our unique paradise was founded in 1905 with the goal of it being the “Venice of America.” It may not have happened overnight, but it’s safe to say that in over 100 years, our beloved Venice has come a long way from becoming an imitation, and made a name of its very own.
In honor of this, we decided to have a little walk down memory lane. Prepare yourself for sweet some nostalgia as you scroll through the far yet familiar look of Venice from the 1970s, as photographed by Robin Dunitz.
