January 7, 2026, marks the first anniversary of the Pacific Palisades Fire that ravaged the Palisades community.
Palisades American Legion Post 283 is hosting a special community ceremony to honor lives lost, salute the courage of first responders and volunteers, as well as “recognize the resilience of families and organizations who have worked tirelessly to restore the heart of Pacific Palisades.”
According to a press release, the upcoming White Glove Flag Presentation and Remembrance Ceremony “will bring together community members, civic leaders, and recovery partners in remembrance, gratitude, and unity. The program will commemorate the twelve Palisadians who lost their lives and pay tribute to the countless individuals and groups who are helping the community recover.”
How will the show run?
- 8:00 am – Coffee & Breakfast
- 9:00-10:00 am – Remembrance and Tribute Program featuring a white glove presentation of flags for the families of those lost and for invited guests. Special invocation and accompanying music by the Palisades Symphony. This segment is a private event for families of those lost, and invited guests. However, the program will be streamed live immediately outside Post 283 on La Cruz Drive, where members of the public are warmly invited to gather and view the ceremony together.
- 10:00-10:20 am – Flag Dedication of the American Legion Post 283 “survivor flag” flown during the fire to be preserved as a symbol of endurance. Army bugler to mark the retirement of the historic Palisades Post Office flag and the raising of a new flag. Color guard and procession to the Village Green, located on Sunset Blvd., featuring representatives from the American Legion, the Army National Guard, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, select relief organizations, and accompanying bagpipers.
- 10:30-11:00 am – Honor Procession and Bell Tribute, including a color guard procession to the Village Green featuring representatives from the American Legion, the Army National Guard, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and accompanied by bagpipers. The ceremony will conclude with a ringing of the bells and the presentation of wreaths to honor those lost in the fire.
- 11:15-1:00 pm – Community Lunch at Palisades American Post 283
