Almost 30 years after his first Oscar nomination, film director Paul Thomas Anderson has won his first Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for One Battle After Another.
“I’m incredibly honored to be a part of this history,” said Anderson during his acceptance speech.
Anderson was born and raised in Los Angeles‘ Studio City neighborhood. He went on to thank the cast and crew as well as his family.
“I wrote this movie for my kids to say sorry for the housekeeping mess that we left in this world we’re handing off to them. But also, with encouragement that they will be the generation that hopefully brings us some common sense and decency.”
He also won Best Director, and One Battle After Another won Best Film.
Anderson’s first nomination was for Boogie Nights in 1998. His other iconic movies include There Will Be Blood and Punch Drunk Love. He’s had 14 nominations over the span of his career, and finally scored big at tonight’s 98th Academy Awards.
