Escape to the Mediterranean coast without leaving DTLA.
It’s hard to dream of a better way to take in the L.A. skyline than basking in the sun next to a sparkling aqua pool surrounded by gorgeous hanging plants and white umbrellas. And, of course, an icy cocktail in hand. The Mediterranean-inspired rooftop restaurant and bar, Pilot DTLA, is perched atop The Hoxton and it’s an unexpected oasis overlooking the bustling Downtown city life below.
In case you’re wondering about the name, it happens to be a tribute to the rooftop’s cameo in the 1921 film “Stranger than Fiction.” It served as the launch pad from which stuntman Frank Clarke and pilot Wally Timm flew their plane, according to their website.
After closing due to the initial stay-at-home order, the airy outdoor hotspot is back open and it’s serving up wood-fired pizzas, bar snacks and craft cocktails. While the usual menu is centered around fresh, locally sourced seafood and seasonal vegetables many plates, and a live-fire to bring out the best flavors, the menu is currently limited meaning the theatrical tableside preparation will have to wait.
Nothing pairs better with a poolside setting than their popular Honeybear on Holiday cocktail featuring Altos Tequila Blanco, Lustau Amontillado Sherry ‘Los Arcos,’ Amaro, Pineapple and Cumin-infused Honey. This delicious summer treat is served in a ridiculously cute bear-shaped glass on a bed of ice with a bit of agave for the final touch.
A number of measures have been introduced to ensure your safety and comfort, including limiting their capacity, limiting staff interactions with a mobile menu and ordering service, and spacing seating out.
They’re open daily from 3 pm and you can reserve your spot online.
