For years, Plaza México in Lynwood has reserved Friday evenings for a community that too often goes without dedicated social space.
From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. each week, the open-air plaza at 3100 E. Imperial Hwy hosts Sueños y Esperanza (Dreams and Hope), a nonprofit organization that arranges structured yet joyful social activities — karaoke, dancing, and open socializing — for people with Down Syndrome, Autism, and other forms of neurodivergence.

Unlike one-off events, the Sueños y Esperanza program runs every single Friday throughout the year, giving participants a reliable anchor in their weekly routine. Entrance and parking are free, and attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
The setting — surrounded by replicas of Mexican cultural monuments including El Ángel de la Independencia and the Aztec Calendar — provides a lively, familiar backdrop for connection.
