A mildly creepy cabin getaway in the breathtaking Big Sur, anyone?
Who would have thought all the twisted plotting and pondering of Nurse Mildred Ratched (Sarah Paulson) could take place in one of these humble cabins perched on a cliff in sunny California? If you haven’t already succumbed to the hype of Ryan Murphy’s thrilling tale of the iconic nurse from the 1975 hit film One Flew Over a Cuckoo’s Nest, then what are you even watching this season? All you need to know for now is that it looks back at Nurse Ratched’s grim experiences that led her astray to a path of wickedness. And you absolutely should be binge-watching it this month.
Whether you love the show or not, there’s no denying that it’s a visual feast. The impeccable 50s styling of the hair, furniture, and garments are enough to drool over, not to mention the breathtaking locations. It’s basically Mad Men meets Tales By Light. Think polished glam of the era with the incredible backdrop of an aqua blue ocean and jagged cliffs all accented with bright pops of color courtesy of the abundant flora.
Lucia Lodge is the actual name of The Sealight Inn from the opening scene, which dates all the way back to the 1930s. Here, instead of wandering through a mere set, fans will be able to stay a night. Luckily, not a whole lot has been updated in these ten cabins since they were built, adding to the old-school charm.
Guests will unplug from the world and retreat to a simpler time where TV screens are replaced with jaw-dropping views of the Big Sur surrounding them. There’ll be nothing more than a white picket fence between you and a dramatic 300-foot cliffside drop to the Pacific Ocean.
It’s no secret that living out pop culture fantasies through hospitality is becoming increasingly popular, we’ve seen that with the last Blockbuster store and Fresh Prince of Bel-Air mansion listings on Airbnb earlier this year. So if this generation can be characterized by anything, it’s Netflix and unique, lust-worthy escapes. Lucia Lodge ticks all these boxes.
