Without music, life would be a mistake, said the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, and we couldn’t agree more (and besides, who are we to contradict him, right?). Many people dedicate countless hours not only to listening to music, but to doing so in the format with the highest audio fidelity possible: vinyl! For music lovers and collectors, this weekend is a date that’s impossible to miss on the calendar.
On Saturday, April 12th, one of the most anticipated days of the year arrives in the city. The first date of Record Store Day comes to celebrate music, honor vinyl records, and support independent record stores. Thirty stores in the city will open their doors, where fans will find exclusive editions of their favorite artists.
This year’s standout releases include the 50th-anniversary picture disc of Fleetwood Mac’s 1975 self-titled album, limited to 6,475 copies, featuring hits like “Rhiannon,” “Landslide,” and “Say You Love Me,” plus custom artwork on both sides.
One release to check out is Head on the Door by The Cure, remastered by Robert Smith himself, featuring tracks that blend the band’s early post-punk sound with their dreamy pop era, including In Between Days and Close to Me. There’s also the exclusive 7″ white vinyl of Taylor Swift’s Fortnight from The Tortured Poets Department, and a limited 2 LP set of Wicked: The Soundtrack, pressed on glitter vinyl, with a bonus track and exclusive cover art.
