About 120 miles north of L.A., at the convergence of the Sierra Nevada and El Paso mountain ranges, lies California’s Red Rock Canyon State Park.
It’s a striking landscape with remarkable 300-foot sandstone cliffs, whose striped burnt-orange hues look even more dramatic among fields of spring wildflowers.
Here’s the latest about the 2026 wildflower bloom in Red Rock Canyon.

Wildflower season at Red Rock Canyon State Park
Wildflowers are blooming right now in Red Rock Canyon, according to recent Instagram posts by the Red Rock Canyon Interpretive Association (RRCIA), as well as the March 20th Theodore Payne Wildflower Report.
RRCIA writes that wildflower season generally begins in mid-March and extends into May, but it varies year-to-year depending on weather conditions. They recommend wildflower spots such as the Ricardo Nature Trail, Hagen Canyon, and Red Cliffs Preserve.
Theodore Payne shared that the endemic Red Rock Canyon monkeyflower (Erythranthe rhodopetra) is visible along the Red Cliffs Nature Trail with its delicate purple-and-yellow blooms. Other flowers in bloom include chia, desert dandelion, pincushion, seep monkeyflower, Booth’s evening primrose, yellow pepper cress, and desert evening primrose.
Now’s a good time to start following the weekly wildflower reports and planning a drive out to the desert.

Visiting Red Rock Canyon
It takes about 2 hours to reach Red Rock Canyon State Park from Los Angeles via California State Route 14.
These striking landscapes once sat along a major Native American trade route, and the park is still an important archaeological site with thousands of years of artifacts from the Indigenous Kawaiisu people.
The dramatic rock formations also conceal extensive fossil beds, preserving evidence of prehistoric plants and animals like sabertooth cats, ancient horses, camels, and mastodons. Today, the park’s otherworldly scenery has made it a popular filming location.
