Thousand Oaks’ Reign of Terror Haunted House has returned even bigger for the 2026 Halloween season. The long-running walk-through attraction, which has been terrifying Southern California since 1999, now spans a massive 35,000 square feet and contains 145 bone-chilling rooms —claiming to be Southern California’s largest indoor haunted-house experience.
Guests will wind through 12 connected haunted attractions, encountering detailed sets, live scare actors, special effects, mechanical creatures, and plenty of sudden surprises along the way. Reign of Terror opens on select nights from September 25 through November 1, 2026, for its 27th annual season.
New haunted worlds join 2026 lineup
This year’s expansion introduces three new themed sections: Backwoods, where you’ll need to watch for bear traps as you explore sinister old hunting cabins; The Blue Bayou Hotel, where guests check into a terrifying hotel with endless corridors, and a reimagined Funhouse, which invites you into a carnival nightmare. Returning scare zones include the familiar Vampire’s Lair, Casa Blood, and The Asylum.
The experience is designed as one continuous journey rather than a collection of isolated mazes, so once you enter, you’ll move through a huge variety of fear-inducing cinematic scenes without having to rejoin a line.
This year’s attraction also includes a daytime Lights ON walk-through on October 17, which is perfect for scaredy-cats; as well as a one-night Lights OUT event on November 1, where each group only gets one small glow stick to navigate the maze.
Reign of Terror is known for its impressively cinematic set design, with each themed section carefully planned to target a different type of fear. The experience includes custom-built animatronics, professional lighting, and interactive props that lend a heightened level of authenticity.
