The Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area is reopening its popular summer Swim Beach this weekend! Visitors can once again enjoy the sandy shoreline alongside scenic views of the San Gabriel foothills.
This 70-acre lake sits within a much larger 836-acre park that features a wide range of outdoor activities, including fishing, boating, picnicking, and camping. Read on for a quick guide to getting the most out of this often-overlooked lake beach in L.A. County.
Santa Fe Swim Beach
Swimming in Santa Fe Lake is limited to the 5-acre Swim Beach, located on the south side of the lake near the main parking lot. The sandy shoreline and designated swim zone are secured with ropes, and lifeguards are present for safety.
If you’re planning to swim, note that the approved area is fairly shallow, making it especially popular with kids and families, and it can become crowded. A separate Splash Pad for children is set to open on June 15th.
🗓️ Opening dates: The beach is open on weekends only beginning this weekend for Memorial Day. Starting Father’s Day weekend, the beach will open from Wednesday to Sunday until September.
🕜 Hours: 10am to 6pm
More activities in the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area
Although the beach draws the biggest crowds in summer, the full 836-acre recreation area offers plenty to explore. Visitors can rent non-motorized watercraft like kayaks and pedal boats, or enjoy hiking, biking, and horseback riding along the surrounding trails.
Many people also visit year-round for fishing and overnight camping, or to take part in occasional “Moonlight Fishing” events.
