In 2016 the City of L.A. declared August 24 as Kobe Bryant Day in honor of his achievements, philanthropy, and legacy in Los Angeles. In tribute to this day and the significance of Kobe’s role in culture, Santa Monica’s historic Pacific Wheel lit up Wednesday night with an array of Lakers’ purple and yellow patterns along with the numbers 8 and 24.
The profound light show started right at sunset on Wednesday, August 24 around 7:29 P.M., and went on until midnight.
If you’re out of town, don’t fret. You can watch the Ferris wheel light up via the Pacific Wheel’s live webcam.
