It’s official — Shohei Ohtani is now a Los Angeles Dodger. Ohtani took to Instagram to announce his deal with the MLB team on Saturday, December 9, 2023.
“To all the fans and everyone involved in the baseball world, I apologize for taking so long to come to a decision,” Ohtani wrote on the post. “I have decided to choose the Dodgers as my next team.”
The two-time American League MVP has been a sought-after candidate across the MLB — with internet rumors spreading he’d leave the Angels for the Blue Jays, Cubs, and Giants. However, it looks like the Dodgers were the ones who sealed the deal with a historic contract for a historic player.
It’s being called one of the biggest contracts in history — and it’s understandable why. With Ohtani joining the Dodgers, he is now considered one of the highest-paid players in MLB history with a whopping 10-year, 700 million-dollar contract. He is expected to be the face of the Dodgers franchise — and fans and celebrities alike have welcomed him into blue heaven with open arms.
“And to all Dodgers fans, I pledge to always do what’s best for the team and always continue to give it my all to be the best version of myself,” Ohtani wrote. “Until the last day of my playing career, I want to continue to strive forward not only for the Dodgers but for the baseball world.”
With his words, it seems the feelings are mutual. Welcome home, Shohei Ohtani! It’s Shotime.
