Just a short drive from L.A., Los Rios Rancho in Oak Glen is a historic destination with a rich past. The farm’s roots trace back to 1906, when it was established by Howard L. Rivers, making it the oldest continually operating apple orchard in the area. Today, it is run by the Riley family, who have been dedicated to preserving the farm’s traditional and agricultural heritage since they began leasing the property in 2004.
Sprawling over 300 acres, this farm is a true agricultural giant in SoCal and the biggest in the region. The ranch is home to the staggering amount of 8,000 apple trees, featuring more than 32 different varieties, from classic Red Delicious to traditional favorites. But that’s not all, the farm also includes a vast stretch of land for other produce like raspberries and chestnuts.
There’s a wide array of activities to enjoy when visiting, with the most popular being, of course, U-pick apple picking. The farm offers hayrides and horse-drawn carriages that provide scenic tours of the property, showcasing the picturesque beauty of the Oak Glen area.
The ranch also features other family-friendly attractions like a corn maze and a petting zoo, alongside its beloved historic cider press, where you can see how fresh apple cider is made. For those who prefer a more relaxed outing, there are numerous food vendors and a popular bakery, famous for its fresh-baked apple pies and other delicious treats!
Apple season typically runs from late August through November, but now is the perfect time to visit, with mild temperatures and sunny days. Visiting Los Ríos Ranchos doesn’t require reservations of any kind. There are no parking fees and admission is completely free.
