Sofar Sounds has recently collaborated with Fever to bring a series of special concerts to L.A. neighborhoods, and we got the opportunity to experience the first one on March 23! With a secret venue and lineup, we weren’t too sure what to expect. It ended up being a lovely night out in Van Nuys that we’d experience again and again. Read on for our review!

Finding out where the concert was happening
Going into our first Sofar concert, we felt a little apprehensive of the whole process. The booking was fairly simple: we selected our concert and were told we’d only receive initial key information the day before the performance like whether the location of the concert would have food onsite, if it was indoors or outdoors, and all accessibility options. It was both thrilling and scary to dive into the unknown, but once we finally made it to the concert, all of our fears were replaced by anticipation. The lineup of artists was still kept under wraps, and we were itching to discover which 3 performers would be gracing the stage that night!
Discovering the lineup of artist
We honestly felt part of an exclusive club! Seeing the artists one by one as they came on helped us focus on each performer as they set fire to the stage. With typical concerts, there’s that opportunity to see your favorite singers, rappers, etc — keeping you away from truly enjoying others’ music and what they have to share!
At Sofar Sounds, we were transported inside each artists’ universe with no exception. Plus, there are only 3 main artists at every Sofar concert, with no headliners, so we felt we could give our full attention to every artist equally. Every performer set fire to the stage, encouraging us to clap, repeat words… A lovely concert experience that warmed our hearts.
Making connections
Throughout the concert, we couldn’t help but feel like we were in fusion with the people in the room. Since the show was small, we noticed every surprising glance as the next artist came on, every little shimmy, and every clap at the end of the songs. The lights felt more vibrant, the music more alive… everything was heightened being in such an intimate concert experience. We sent a few smiles here and there, feeling tied to the people in the room as if all were brought to this secret spot for a reason.
Following-up after the concert
A few hours after the concert, we received an email from Sofar Sounds with the names of the artists we saw that evening and where we could keep in touch with them. You know when you’ve got an artist’s name on the tip of your tongue? Or when you’ve got the melody of a song with no way of finding out the title of the track? Yeah. It was nice to have Sofar check in, so we could follow the artists we like and download the tunes we’ve been meaning to save.
Overall
Going to our first Sofar concert was an experience that we’d love to do again. It was lovely to opt out of the large concerts for once, instead listening to music in a small venue with like-minded people. Definitely add it to your L.A. bucket list!
