This summer, you won’t need to break the piggy bank if you’re planning to visit family in the Midwest or bring them along for some sunbathing and exploring our beloved California landscapes. Ultra-low-cost airline Spirit has announced new routes connecting several spots across the country, including one right here in SoCal.
The airline has confirmed plans to launch new flights from Detroit, Minneapolis, and Reno, Nevada, and will also resume service on a route from Atlantic City, New Jersey. These routes were initially spotted by Ishrion Aviation and later confirmed by a spokesperson from Spirit. Starting August 13, Spirit will begin daily flights between Detroit and Orange County/Santa Ana, California.
The next day, the airline will kick off two more routes: a three-times-a-week service between Reno and San Diego on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, plus a twice-weekly flight connecting Minneapolis to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, running on Thursdays and Sundays.
Although Spirit Airlines hasn’t officially announced ticket prices for the new daily flights between Detroit and Orange County starting August 13, a quick search shows fares starting around $72 one way and about $143 round trip. Will these low prices hold once the route officially launches? That’s a question of wait and see.
