When we think of the sea and the creatures that live there, our minds (at least mine) immediately travel to the corners where iconic places like Mr. Krabs’ Krusty Krab or Plankton’s Chum Bucket are located. It turns out that SpongeBob’s universe is inseparable from the world of marine life. For this reason, and to promote ocean conservation on Earth Day, the Natural History Museum has the perfect plan:
The Museum has teamed up with Nickelodeon’s Our World for a fun, educational dive into the science behind Bikini Bottom and its beloved characters. The special exhibit explores how we can protect our oceans and planet, showcasing the work of museum scientists and community scientists alike.
Visitors will learn about marine biology, ocean conservation, and biodiversity through interactive content and rare collections. The exhibit highlights ways to restore marine habitats and safeguard the diverse life in our oceans, showing how science and action work together to create a healthier planet.
For those who can’t attend in person, there are virtual events available, including science experiments you can do at home, like creating Chocolate Sedimentary Rocks and building a DIY Bathyscope. Whether you’re visiting the museum or joining online, the event offers plenty of opportunities to explore the underwater world and learn about conservation efforts.
