Los Angeles’ legendary diner Swingers is expanding east, bringing its beloved comfort food and nostalgic atmosphere to Silver Lake. The new location is opening in the former All Day Baby space on Sunset Boulevard, giving Eastside residents another place to grab breakfast well into the night.
A beloved L.A. diner finds a new home in Silver Lake
First opened on Beverly Boulevard in 1993, Swingers has become a familiar name in Los Angeles dining. Known for its retro-inspired interior and all-day breakfast, the diner has served generations of Angelenos looking for pancakes, omelets, burgers, and late-night comfort food.
Its original location even inspired the 1996 film Swingers, although the movie was filmed at the former 101 Coffee Shop. The restaurant has also appeared in productions including Knocked Up and Insecure.
Swingers announced its permanent closure in April 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, but reopened later that year under Stephanie Wilson, a longtime employee who had been with the restaurant since 2010. Now, Wilson is bringing the diner to a new neighborhood.
A retro interior with a familiar feel
Swingers plans to recreate the atmosphere of its original location with plaid booths, mosaic tiles, and wood-paneled walls. The nostalgic design will bring the diner’s signature look to Sunset Boulevard while leaving room for a few touches unique to Silver Lake.
For now, customers will need to order takeout, but the full dining room is expected to open in December. Once it does, the restaurant plans to serve customers from the morning through the early hours of the next day.
