Before a new era can be welcomed in, the old one must be mourned. That’s the idea at the core of The Cortège, a theatrical spectacle that blends mythic pageantry, live ritual, and cutting-edge tech to stage a “festive funeral for our times.” It’s certainly one of the most original shows you can catch in LA, and it’s open now at the Equestrian Center (480 Riverside Drive, Burbank)—but only for a few more performances! The show’s limited run will come to an end on October 19—get your tickets while you can.

The Cortège invites audiences on a sonic voyage through choreographed movement, archetypal costuming, drone apparitions, puppetry, robotics, and participation.
Here are some of the things you can expect at this stunning surreal experience:
- Open-air market with food and drinks
- Live music
- Large-scale puppetry
- Drone art and synchronized quadruped robots
- A cinematic musical score transmitted via silent disco-style headsets
- Original music from artists such as El Búho, Boreta, and TOKiMONSTA
- Tracks from Air, Andrew Bird, Beautiful Chorus, Freedom Fighters, Jean-Michelle Jarre, and more!
- Tea service and communal gathering in the Afterlife Tent
- Ambient live music and DJ sets from special guests TBA

The Cortège takes place at dusk, with the performance’s wordless, cinematic score being transmitted via wireless headsets. The show is inspired by various cultures from around the world, so expect dance, music, and costumes rooted deep in timeless tradition.

The Cortège invites you to feel through motion, costuming, and atmosphere—and after it’s finished, everyone’s invited to join the procession and gather for shared tea and ambient sounds in the Afterlife Tent. This finale, called Beyond, also features live music from these phenomenal artists:
- Thurs (Sept 11) – Carlos Niño and Friends (live)
- Friday (Sept 12) – Low Leaf (live)
- Saturday (Sept 13) – JOJO ABOT (live)
- Sunday (Sept 14) – Nailah Hunter (live)
- Thursday (September 18) – Jacqui Mateo & SouLand (live)
- Sunday (Sept 21) – Superposition (Boreta / Matt Davis) with Alan Watts Org (live)
- Thursday (Sept 25) – Secular Sabbath ft Rhye (live)
The Cortège is open now at the LA Equestrian Center (480 Riverside Drive, Burbank). Performances take place four nights a week from Thursdays through Sundays, but the show will only run until October 19, so be sure to get your tickets before they’re gone!
