The beloved Water Lantern Festival is bringing one of Southern California’s most magical summer experiences back to the Los Angeles area. Just under 30 minutes from Downtown L.A., thousands of glowing lanterns will drift across the lake at Whittier Narrows Recreation Area during a three-night celebration running from July 31 through August 2, 2026.
Inspired by lantern traditions celebrated across Asia, the family-friendly event invites guests to decorate a floating lantern with personal messages, hopes, or memories before watching the lake come alive after sunset in a breathtaking display of light.
