After over 40 years in the business and numerous classic films under his belt, Tim Burton recieved a Hollywood Walk of Fame star on Tuesday, September 3. The star is outside of Hollywood Toys & Costumes (6600 Hollywood Blvd), one of his favorite childhood haunts.
The announcement of Burton’s star came right before the releases Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the highly anticipated sequel to the 1988 hit. The star is also just a short walk from the officially-licensed pop-up, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice: The Afterlife Experience, open now at Ovation Hollywood.
Tim Burton has been one of the most unique and innovative filmmakers since he first started animating for Disney in the early 80’s. As a child, Burton was fascinated by the weird and macabre. He would often play in cemeteries and, to this day, finds the suburbs of Burbank chilling.
A fan of creating his own Halloween costumes, Hollywood Toys & Costumes stoked a young Burton’s imagination. While showing a journalist some of his favorite spots from childhood, Burton re-visited the legendary costume shop and told the reporter, “Look inside. It’s every mask you could ever hope for.”
Countless young artists have played, created, and experimented thanks to both Tim Burton and Hollywood Toys & Costumes—two ghastly LA icons. Tim Burton’s star will now permanently sit in front of the store that inspired the filmmaker as a child; it doesn’t get much cooler than that.
You can watcch the archived livestream of the ceremony here (it starts around 15:35). Beetlejuice Beetlejuice opens September 6 (see where to watch it in IMAX here). And don’t miss Beetlejuice Beetlejuice: The Afterlife Experience, open now (read more about it here)!
