If heaven was a place on earth…
…it would probably look a lot like this whimsical lounge on Abbot Kinney where you can sip on freshly brewed coffee, nibble on light snacks and snuggle adorable rescue kittens. CatCafe’s is bringing back their popular Tiny Beans Kitten Lounge pop-up for a second year, after saving 300 furry lives on its first run.
This location is solely focused on saving adorable, adoptable kittens, whereas the nonprofit flagship in West L.A. is primarily focused on rehabilitating and finding homes for adult cats. Tens of thousands of kittens pounce into LA during kitten season from spring to fall, according to CatCafe. Sadly, many of them land up being euthanized due to a shortage of resources and space in shelters.
You’ll spend 60 minutes in a room filled with 13 “tiny beans” that you get to play with and even take one (or all of them) home with you. The space reflects the blissful experience with pastel rainbow-clad interiors accented with unicorn lights, and puffy clouds hanging from the ceilings. While this is any human’s idea of the best place on earth, the cat-centric interiors are designed to be the purrrfect playground for little felines. There are plenty of wooden nooks for kittens to curl up in, along with plush carpets filled with toys where they can get an afternoon belly rub.
All kittens are taken from a network of rescues when they reach an adoptable age, freeing them up to spend more time nursing “bottle babies.” This feel-good pop-up will be open for three months and tickets are $35. Making a reservation online is recommended but walk-ins are also accepted if there’s a free time slot.
You can also visit CatCafe and its new patio space Catopia with 100% of the profits going towards saving and improving the lives of these rescues. There’s also tons of great merch available to purchase and, of course, donations are welcomes — plus, they’re tax-deductible.
