On June 11, 2025, @UnifiedLA posted that four local public safety agencies—the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), L.A. County Sheriff, California Highway Patrol (CHP), and the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD)—have joined together as the Unified Command Team.
You can follow @UnifiedLA on Instagram and X for a simple way to receive real-time updates from the agencies all in one place.
What is Unified Command?
Per the California State Portal website, Unified Command is a structure that brings together the Incident Commanders of major public organizations to coordinate an incident response. When an incident requires a multi-agency or multi-jurisdictional strategy, Unified Command helps to coordinate between the agencies while still allowing each to carry out their respective duties.
“To address the public safety needs during the widespread protests in Los Angeles, @LAPDHQ, @lacountysheriff, @CHP_HQ, and @LAFD are in unified command to manage the ongoing incident,” wrote the @UnifiedLA. “Follow @UnifiedLA for upcoming communications from the Unified Command Team.”
Within an hour of announcing the Unified Command Team, the account shared essential information about the US-101 ramp closures through Downtown Los Angeles. On X, it also reposted Wednesday curfew information from Mayor Karen Bass.
The Unified LA account is not new, and you may have already followed it for updates during the L.A. wildfires in January. The account’s official description is, “Emergency Public Information on large-scale incidents & planned events, where multiple Los Angeles area agencies are under a Joint Information Center.” During the fires, it served as a resource for everything from road closures to animal evacuation services.
What are some other useful accounts to follow?
Social media has been a crucial point of reference this week for millions of people to navigate both official city announcements and unofficial citizen updates. Of course, you can still follow Unified LA’s individual public safety agencies for more detailed updates about their respective duties.
Other useful accounts include L.A. Metro, which provides updates on public transit changes and closures, and major public figures like Mayor Karen Bass (@MayorOfLA on X and Instagram) and Governor Gavin Newsom (@CAGovernor on X and Instagram).
