If you are, or identify as, a boomer, chances are you have no idea what a Labubu is. Still, you’ve probably came across TikToks with millions of views showing people freaking out as they unbox a tiny, fluffy-looking figure with a mischievous grin, the kind your kids or nieces and nephews won’t stop talking about.
Well, it turns out that these quirky little plushies are the latest internet and IRL craze, kind of like the Stanley Cup phenomenon from a few years ago.
What is Labubu, and why is it so popular?
Created by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung in collaboration with Pop Mart, this mischievous figure with its creepy smile, pointy ears, and wide-eyed stare has become the star of the collectible toy world. Mostly thanks to the many celebs and influencers who can’t stop showing off their Labubu hauls on social media, particularly after BLACKPINK’s Lisa was seen with them.
But the craze is being fueled by the limited drops, blind box surprises, and ultra-rare designs that send fans into a frenzy. Some versions can only be scored through raffles or flash sales, while others pop up in resale markets at jaw-dropping prices.
How much does a Labubu cost?

Retail prices directly from PopMart for standard Labubu figures typically range from $22 to $28, depending on the series and retailer… Some resellers are selling them for double or even triple the retail cost. However (and here’s when things really get crazy), certain limited-edition or collaboration pieces can fetch significantly higher prices.
For instance, the Labubu x Vans Oldskool Monsters Forever vinyl plush doll has been listed for up to $3,900 on resale platforms. Additionally, the I Found You vinyl doll (which includes a tote bag) has a resale value of approximately $370.
Among the most coveted and rare Labubu figures are those from exclusive collaborations and limited releases. Notably, a 131 cm mint green Labubu sold for approximately $170,000 at a Beijing auction, setting a record for the highest price ever paid for a Labubu doll.
