The 2026 World Cup hits its second day on Friday, June 12, with a lean two-match card — both Matchday 1 openers, both centered on a host nation making its entrance. Mexico opened the tournament yesterday as the very first winner. Now the United States and Canada get their turn, and for Angelenos, the headliner is right down the freeway.
USA vs. Paraguay closes the day in Group D at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. It’s the Americans’ first World Cup match on home soil since 1994, kicking off in our own backyard as the sun goes down. Paraguay is no pushover, and with Australia and Turkey rounding out the group, the opener will set an early tone.
Hours before that, Canada launches Group B against Bosnia and Herzegovina up in Toronto, the co-hosts’ first look at a group that still holds Qatar and Switzerland. Both groups start with a blank slate, so there’s nothing in the standings to judge yet. It’s just two openers where every point is up for grabs from the first whistle.
