Step inside the jungle!
These days, culinary occasions usually involve elaborate spectacles of smoke and flames only to reveal tiny morsels that leave your belly and wallet empty. So when you find a cute spot offering generous servings of deliciousness, you immediately begin to explore your closest permanent parking options and other ways to embed it in your daily life. And when it comes to Japanese food in L.A., particularly sushi, it’s not easy to find a place offering sustainably sourced dishes exuding a fresh flare while honoring traditional recipes.
So allow us to introduce to your new favorite food haven, Yuko. This gorgeous, plant-filled lifestyle eatery has three outposts: two kitchens—Yuko DTLA and Miracle Mile —and the Soup Bar just a stone’s throw away from the DTLA spot. While each has a slightly different menu and charm, the satisfying food, lush surroundings and bold patterns are unmistakably Yuko.
The DTLA location is more of an expansive urban jungle than it is an eatery at the moment. Although flora has always been a key feature of the space, with a whimsical mural as the backdrop, it no longer caters to indoor dining—yes, COVID-19 continues to haunt our simple pleasures. Instead, its enormous windows with enough plant species is now more of a nursery offering beautiful pots and plants for sale. Patrons can peruse the beautiful offerings while ordering for takeout or enjoy on the beautiful patio space.
When it comes to the food there’s almost certainly something for everyone, or even for someone that wants a bit of everything. From rice bowls, Japanese burritos, fresh sushi and salads to a chicken plate special that features a little bit of everything. Vegan and vegetarian options are available too, not to mention a mouthwatering selection of freshly pressed juices, coffees, baked goods as well as cocktails.
We’ve been eyeing the Keto Green Tea Cheese Pie made with Monk fruit sugar and Almond flour. Due to its delicate structure, this option is not available on Postmates, so it’s reserved for those who visit in person.
So if you’re looking for your fill of flowers, food and happiness, this is where you need to go. Yuko.
