Twenty-five years after it was released, the stars and director of Broken Hearts Club are reuniting for a screening and panel in West Hollywood.
On Saturday, April 25, actors Zach Braff and Billy Porter will join a 25th Anniversary Screening of The Broken Hearts Club at West Hollywood Park.
The film is actually set in West Hollywood and follows “a close-knit group of gay friends navigating relationships, ambition and heartbreak. Anchored by bar owner Jack, played by John Mahoney, the ensemble cast includes Timothy Olyphant, Zach Braff, Billy Porter, Justin Theroux and Jennifer Coolidge, among others,” reads the press release.
“The film was an early screen credit for several cast members who would later achieve mainstream success, and it remains notable for presenting LGBTQ+ lives in a studio-backed romantic comedy at a time when such representation was rare. Filmed in part on location in West Hollywood, the production captured a snapshot of the neighborhood at the turn of the millennium.”
Ahead of the screening, a panel will be moderated by Jess Cagle and feature Braff, Porter, director/writer Greg Berlanti and producer Mickey Liddell. The evening will also include food trucks, sponsor activations, and community programming celebrating LGBTQ+ culture and storytelling. Proceeds support Pride House LA/West Hollywood.
“We are honored that Street Food Cinema has chosen to screen ‘The Broken Hearts Club,’ and beyond thrilled that the screening will benefit PH LA/WeHo and the Out Athlete Fund,” said Greg Berlanti and Mickey Liddell in a statement.
“At its heart, this film is about friendship and found family within the LGBTQIA+ community and finding love and support during both challenging and celebratory times. This ragtag group of friends may not be the most skilled at softball, but they are pros at showing up for each other and the game, much like PH LA/WeHo and the OutAF fund show up for the community. We cannot wait to revisit the film with everyone and look forward to supporting these organizations that champion inclusion and LGBTQIA+ excellence in sports.”
