The 405 Freeway is one of the busiest highways in the United States, carrying more than 300,000 vehicles a day through Los Angeles. That’s why ongoing construction in the Sepulveda Pass has become such a major concern for drivers, promising lane reductions that will affect weekends well into the first half of 2026.
Starting this February, Caltrans will be tightening the squeeze on the I-405, promising at least 25 extended lane reductions along this notoriously congested stretch.
Here’s what drivers can expect during the weekend, from Friday, February 6, to Monday, February 9.

Northbound I-405:
- Reduced to three lanes from just south of Getty Center Drive/Sepulveda Blvd. to just north of Bel Air Crest Road.
- Getty Center Drive off-ramp closed.
Southbound I-405:
- Reduced to three lanes from Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive on-ramp to Getty Center Drive/Sepulveda Blvd. on-ramp.
Alternate Routes:
- Northbound I-405: Take Sepulveda Blvd. north, then east/north on Skirball Center Drive to the on-ramp.
- Southbound I-405: Take Sepulveda Blvd. south, then south on Church Lane to the Sunset Blvd. on-ramp.
These extended weekend lane reductions will happen roughly every two weeks, so plan ahead, set out earlier, or embrace public transportation while the $143.7 million project works through the pass. Expect noise, vibrations, and dust if you live nearby, and remember: “Be Work Zone Alert” and “Slow for the Cone Zone.”
