Dolly Parton’s music, movies, philanthropy, and unmistakable larger-than-life style made her one of the most recognizable figures in American culture. The country legend died on August 25 at age 80, leaving behind a career spanning nearly seven decades, more than 100 million records sold, and a philanthropic legacy that includes the Imagination Library, which has distributed hundreds of millions of books to children worldwide.
Now, California has given fans an official reason to celebrate, as September 25 has just been designated as Dolly Parton Day statewide, with the date chosen as a nod to her iconic hit “9 to 5.”
If you’re looking to honor Dolly with a little music, plenty of sparkle, and perhaps a Dolly-themed cocktail or two, several West Hollywood spots are joining the celebration.
Micky’s West Hollywood
Micky is hosting a Dolly-themed edition of its Cirque du So Gay drag show. The special performance will feature drag queens performing Dolly tribute numbers, plus Dolly-themed drinks and plenty of sing-along-worthy hits. The venue’s official event page lists general admission at $10.
GYM Bar WeHo
GYM Bar WeHo will screen 9 to 5 throughout the day while serving a lineup of Dolly-inspired food and drink specials. Expect cocktails named after some of her biggest cultural moments, including the “Jolene” and “Dolly Rita,” plus $9 chicken tenders, $5 fries or tater tots, and other specials.
Schmitty’s
For a more casual Dolly Day hangout, Schmitty’s is hosting an all-day celebration with a Dolly photo booth, her greatest hits playing throughout, and Tennessee Tea drink specials. Guests are also encouraged to dress as Dolly or break out their best Western look.
V Wine Room
V Wine Room will honor the icon with classic Dolly movies playing throughout the evening and her greatest hits on replay. The neighborhood wine bar offers more than 30 wines by the glass, making it a fitting spot for a lower-key tribute.
