L.A. County Library already gives cardholders plenty of reasons to stop by, with free access to books, movies, technology, and more. But now, there’s an extra new reason to make a library run!
For a limited time, L.A. County Library is teaming up with Sanrio for a special Hello Kitty® and Friends collaboration, bringing some of the brand’s most beloved characters to the library card. The adorable collaboration also includes themed activities, reading lists, crafts, bookmarks, stickers, and other surprises for visitors of all ages.
How to get your limited-edition Hello Kitty library card
The collaboration runs from September 18 through October 18, with the special cards available at L.A. County Library locations.
New customers who sign up for a library card during the promotion can request the Hello Kitty® and Friends design, while supplies last. Already have a library card? You can swap it for the limited-edition version for a $1 replacement fee during the promotion.
The cards are being distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, so availability may vary by location. Make sure to find your nearest branch through the LA County Library website.
Hello Kitty activities at LA County Library

The collaboration also brings Hello Kitty and Friends-inspired activities. Younger visitors can join friendship-themed storytimes and arts and crafts, including Cinnamoroll’s Pom Pom Cafe, Pochacco’s Tissue Art, and Keroppi’s Donut Pond Paper Craft.
School-age kids and teens can take part in friendship bracelet-making, bookmark crafts, character-inspired art, charm workshops, fuse-bead designs, origami, and embroidery. Adults aren’t left out either, with character-inspired reading lists, book displays, and a Hello Kitty and Friends journaling and craft social.
Libraries will also be giving away exclusive co-branded bookmarks and stickers while supplies last, adding a few extra collectibles to the library-card haul.
L.A. County Library card perks
Besides the cute new limited-edition design, library cardholders have free access to physical and digital resources, including books, eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, movies, TV shows, and music. On top of that, you can use the library computers and Wi-Fi, place holds online, and access research databases from home.
There are also resources for learning and everyday life, including online classes, language courses, homework help, career tools, and free tutoring. Depending on the program, the Library also offers access to museum passes, state park parking, tech services, and other community resources, making the card useful well beyond the bookshelf.
