Looking for affordable art supplies, creative classes, or a place to make something new? This Pasadena location is an artist’s dream!
Every month, roughly 10,000 pounds of yarn, fabric, and art supplies land on the shelves of this Pasadena warehouse. At Remainders Creative Reuse, you can sort through bins of second-hand materials priced at a fraction of standard retail costs.
A community-sourced inventory
Founded 12 years ago, the organization tackles the ongoing problem of crafting waste. Unlike traditional craft stores, the inventory at Remainders is community-driven and constantly changing. Finance Director Amy Cox told us that “Remainders’ mission is to cultivate creativity in every single person”.
By rescuing these materials, the store provides an affordable alternative for artists while keeping heavy volumes of usable goods out of the waste stream. As Amy told us, “the more materials people bring, the more things are made”. The aisles of Remainders are filled with bins categorized by material, holding everything from paints and brushes to vintage sewing patterns, jewels, books, and specialized paper. “If it’s artsy and crafty, we probably have something related to that”.
In the back of the building, a dedicated drop-off area processes donations. While small drop-offs are accepted regularly, the facility requires appointments for large volume donations.
Workshops and studio space
Beyond the retail operation, the facility operates as a broader hub for local creatives. Upstairs, in the second floor, Remainders offers an open workspace, hosts regular classes of activities including capoeira and sewing, and includes a recording studio.
