You may have seen a TikTok video floating around with hundreds of Angelenos lined down the block for a sandwich—but it wasn’t just any ordinary sandwich. The viral pop-up belonged to Italy’s most famous sandwich shop known as All’Antico Vinaio.
The worldwide sought-out restaurant was born in Florence and started by the Mazzanati family in 1991. After their incredible success over the decades, their present owner, Tommaso Mazzanati decided to spread the love of their sandwiches throughout Italy to Milan, Rome, and Turin.
The success didn’t stop there, and he set his sights overseas with their first two U.S. locations finding a home in New York City. His next move though? Setting roots right here on the West Coast.
Los Angeles got a taste of the iconic sandwiches at their pop-up that occurred in late January—and they sold out immediately. Which also means: not all of us were lucky enough to bite into their stacked deliciousness. But fret not! We have some exciting news for you and your cravings.
In an announcement on Instagram, Tommaso confirmed that All’Antico Vinaio will be opening a permanent L.A. shop this spring! And not just one, but TWO LOCATIONS.
The grateful translated caption reads, “Thank you from the bottom of my heart Los Angeles ❤️ We did something really impressive and unique. In a few months we will see each other again and it will be even better. I take the opportunity to announce that in these days we have already confirmed .. THE SECOND OPENING!! So by 2023 there will already be two stores here in Los Angeles!! I’m going back to Italy knowing that we can truly accomplish something huge here in the USA, and I’m truly honored.”
The exact locations haven’t been released just yet, but there are rumors online that one of the shops will be in LA’s beloved Koreatown. (As if parking wasn’t already hard to find!)
Nonetheless, we’re already drooling at the thought of an authentic piece of Italy right here in Los Angeles. Even back home they’re known for drawing in a crowd, so it’s a good thing we’re already used to practicing our patience in long lines—and it’ll surely be worth the wait.
Stay tuned, and be sure to check back here for updates!
