Amtrak’s scenic Pacific Surfliner route, which runs 351 miles between San Diego and San Luis Obispo, is gearing up for an exciting month during the FIFA World Cup!

Last week, Amtrak announced a few temporary updates to the Pacific Surfliner’s route and reservation process.

For the duration of the World Cup, from June 11 to July 19, all riders on the Surfliner must reserve their seat in advance. Right now through July 15, riders can save 20% on Coach and Business class fares to and from L.A.

The Pacific Surfliner has added late-night trains departing from Union Station on several match days — June 12, 13, 15, and 25 — for both northbound and southbound routes.

On July 18 and 19, the final days of the World Cup, Pacific Surfliner trains will add a new stop at Burbank Downtown station, so that fans can directly access the Los Angeles World Cup 26 Fan Zone event. The Fan Zone will take over San Fernando Blvd. and surrounding streets with a free international street fair and live match coverage, from 12pm-8pm on Saturday and 10am-6pm on Sunday.

Here are a few more Fan Zones and watch party hotspots to look for along the Pacific Surfliner route:

• Union Station Fan Zone: June 25-28 from 10am-9pm
• Anaheim: Watch party at ARTIC (Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center) on July 19 from 12-3pm
• San Diego: Look for watch parties at sports bars near Santa Fe Depot
• Santa Barbara: Bars and restaurants in the Funk Zone host ongoing watch parties

Getting to SoFi Stadium

L.A. Metro is running expanded service during the World Cup to help connect fans with SoFi Stadium. Union Station has numerous Metro lines to Inglewood as well as rideshare options. Look for the World Cup direct shuttle, which has special options on match days.

Just keep in mind that Codeshare and Rail 2 Rail services will be suspended on several high-demand dates: June 11–15, 18, 21, 25–28; and July 2, 10, 18–19.
