The 10,064-foot peak of Mount Baldy rises in the distance over Los Angeles, attracting hikers and mountaineers all year long. And while there are plenty of ways to enjoy the outdoors on the tallest peak in the San Gabriel Mountains, these monthly Moonlight Hikes are especially memorable.
Once a month on the Saturday before a full moon, Mount Baldy invites hikers to embark on self-guided trail hikes that end with an exclusive buffet-style dinner menu, live music, and dancing.
Here’s what to know about the remaining hikes for 2026.
2026 Moonlight Hikes
Mt. Baldy Resort hosts Moonlight Hikes on the weekend right before each month’s full moon, when the moonlight is at a good angle to cast more illumination into the canyon.
The remaining 2026 Moonlight Hikes are scheduled on the following dates, and tickets are on sale now:

- Saturday, July 25, 2026
- Saturday, August 22, 2026
- Saturday, September 19, 2026
- Saturday, October 17, 2026
Hikers enjoy a completely self-guided experience, meaning they don’t have to stick to a specific pace, and taking the chairlift one or both ways is always an option.
Most participants take the Fireroad to the Notch, a 2.8-mile trail with 1,800 feet in elevation gain. Some choose the more strenuous 6.6-mile Devil’s Backbone Trail or the 1.5-mile Thunder Mountain. There are also a few short trails around the Top of the Notch restaurant to take in the views.
Dinner is served at the restaurant from 5 to 8 pm, with a buffet menu exclusively for Moonlight Hike participants. Options include tri-tip, barbecue chicken, veggie lasagna, roasted potatoes, and vegetables, with drinks available for purchase.
Hikers are also welcomed with live music and dancing from 6:30-9:30pm, and the last chair heads down at 9:45pm.
Early pricing for moonlight hikes starts at $25 for the meal only, $40 for a one-way chairlift and meal, and $50 for the round-trip chairlift and meal. Prices can get up to $70, so make sure you book a spot soon!
