Ana de Armas stars in a highly anticipated new John Wick spinoff coming to Los Angeles theaters next Friday, June 6th, 2025. From the World of John Wick: Ballerina has de Armas playing Eve Macarro, a ballerina-turned-assassin of the Ruska Roma who embarks on a quest for revenge on those responsible for her father’s murder.
While franchise fans are used to seeing Keanu Reeves take center stage as John Wick, Ballerina now presents Wick as a relentless antagonist pursuing Eve at the request of The Director (Anjelica Huston). The result is a tantalizing test of moral ambiguity, challenging the characters’ dual natures as ruthless villains and compassionate protagonists depending on the point of view of the audience.
Ballerina‘s supporting characters will be instrumental in helping to develop the main characters of Eve Macarro and John Wick throughout the story, especially in the greater context of the John Wick universe. Keep reading for a who’s who of characters in Ballerina, from familiar faces like Charon, played by the late Lance Reddick, to new players such as the mysterious Daniel Pine, played by Norman Reedus.
Returning characters
- Winston Scott (Ian McShane) – Winston is the owner of the Continental Hotel in New York and a key figure in the criminal underworld, operating the hotel as a neutral sanctuary for assassins and criminals. He has appeared in all four John Wick films, operating as both an ally and adversary for John Wick. In Ballerina, he is a protector of Eve.
- Charon (Lance Reddick) – Lance Reddick makes a posthumous appearance as his beloved character Charon, having filmed his scenes prior to his death in 2023. Charon is the impeccable concierge of the Continental Hotel, serving as a right-hand man to Winston and a competent fighter when the situation demands it.
- The Director (Anjelica Huston) – Huston plays the formidable head of the Ruska Roma, which is a ballet academy and assassin training facility in the John Wick universe. She played a pivotal role in shaping young recruits, including both John Wick and Eve Macarro. She operates both as Eve’s mentor and as the antagonist who hires Wick to hunt Eve.
- John Wick (Keanu Reeves) – John Wick acts more as a supporting character in Ballerina, but his presence is pivotal to the story. He serves as a ruthless antagonist from Eve’s perspective, bringing new depth to a character that audiences are used to seeing sympathetically.
New characters
- The Chancellor (Gabriel Byrne) – While The Director and John Wick serve as antagonists in Ballerina, The Chancellor is the main antagonist that Eve must face. The mysterious character has shady allegiances and motivations, leading a powerful faction against Eve throughout the story.
- Daniel Pine (Norman Reedus) – Reedus plays another ambiguous new character who is seen as both a potential ally to Eve and a target, given that he has a bounty on his head.
- Nogi (Sharon Duncan-Brewster) – Nogi is an instructor at the Ruska Roma, guiding Eve and other ballerina-assassins. She is the voice heard at the beginning of the Ballerina trailer, telling the story of the mythological Slavic character Kikimora.
- Katla Park (Choi Soo-young) – K-pop star Choi Soo-young plays Katla Park, the daughter of Eve’s colleague Il-seong. Her character raises the emotional stakes of Eve’s mission, as Eve must protect her during a critical mission.
- Lena (Catalina Sandino Moreno) – Lena is one of the most mysterious and potentially significant characters in Ballerina, as her role in the story still remains tightly under wraps.
- Javier (David Castañeda) – Javier is another yet-undisclosed character played by David Castañeda, whom you may know from The Umbrella Academy.
