Big Bear Lake has already seen its first snow of the year, and as the snowflakes paint the valley with a lovely soft white coat, other adventures await… The beloved eagle duo, Jackie and Shadow, are slowly but surely getting ready for a “second season” of their feathery “reality TV show.”
According to Jenny Voisard, Media & Website Manager at Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV), this month is key for the events to come. After resuming their bonding rituals, “nestorations” typically begin to pick up around mid‑November with more sticks and regular eagle visits, as they begin to prepare the nest for eggs”, Voisard said.
With the molt behind them and full plumage restored, our pair will start revisiting their nest bowl, rearranging furniture, and giving territorial inspections. If their pattern holds for 2026, egg‑laying could happen during the winter, in January.
Voisard also pointed out that Jackie laid her first egg of the 2025 season on January 22 at 5:06 PM, with two siblings arriving on January 25 and 28. That means by early fall they’ll already be ticking the calendar in eagle‑time: November is the warm‑up while January is showtime!
So mark your calendars for upcoming livestreams and stay tuned during November as you’ll spot Jackie and Shadow giving an “extreme makeover” to their nest, flicking twigs, sharing perch time, and maybe jumping over a branch or two…
