In a new episode of Keeping Up with the Big Bear Eagles… Feathered siblings Sunny and Gizmo are hitting the much-anticipated 10-week mark! According to experts, starting now and over the next four weeks, these little ones could take their biggest leap yet (literally) as they prepare for their very first flight.
That’s why Friends of Big Bear Valley has already set an official start date for the fledge watch period: Tuesday, May 13. Mark your calendars, as starting that day, thousands of eagle fans will be glued to the livestream, since the first flight could happen at any moment after that. You can follow it all on the FOBBV YouTube Channel below.
And how do we know it’s coming soon? These eaglets have made major progress in recent weeks. They’re nearly pros at self-feeding, spending more time alone in the nest (in fact, they spent their first night alone on Thursday, May 8!) and flapping vigorously to build up their strength. Sunny, in particular, has started hopping up onto the edges of the nest, clearly gearing up for the ultimate test: flying!
While we can’t predict the exact moment it’ll happen, it all depends on the bald eaglets themselves, this week is shaping up to be a key one for Sunny, Gizmo, and their proud eagle parents, Jackie and Shadow.
