Southern California’s events calendar is filling up fast this summer, with a wave of live experiences ranging from immersive ballet productions to jazzy evenings and drone spectacles. Now, another hybrid show is joining the mix, this time blending stand-up comedy with an unexpected partner: wine tasting.
An Idiot’s Guide to Wine, the hit Australian comedy experience, is coming to Fullerton this summer, with a 70-minute show that combines guided wine tasting with live stand-up, offering audiences six curated wine pours while a comedian leads them through a joke-filled introduction to wine culture.

Instead of a formal tasting room setting, the experience leans into humor and accessibility, with storytelling and audience interaction woven through each pour. The format has already built a strong following in the land down under, where it has toured extensively and developed a reputation for turning an usually technical activity into a hilarious (and tipsy) event.
Merrick Watts, the comedian behind the show
At the center of An Idiot’s Guide to Wine is Australian comedian Merrick Watts, the creator of the show and a television and radio personality who has built a second career around wine education with a comedic twist.
Watts holds a Level 3 qualification from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET), a respected certification in the wine industry, making him the only stand-up comedian in the world to have achieved it.
