This August, The Jazz Room brings a one-night-only tribute to The Kult in DTLA, centered on the music of the two biggest music legends from the twentieth century: Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong.

Some of the highlights on the setlist include some of their most recognizable songs, such as “Fly Me to the Moon,” “My Way,” “What a Wonderful World,” and “When You’re Smiling,” along with other classics from their catalog, reimagined by a live band in an intimate setting.
The performance leans into the contrast between Sinatra’s smooth swing and Armstrong’s unmistakable voice and trumpet, letting those styles echo through a smaller room where every arrangement brings these legends back to life.
Sinatra and Armstrong’s historic crossover
Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong’s most memorable collaboration took place during the CBS live special The Edsel Show on October 13, 1957, a major Ford-sponsored TV event. It stands out as a historic one-night pairing of two iconic but very different musical worlds, and remains the most memorable performance.
Before this broadcast, the two had only crossed paths in their first-ever live performance back in September 1945 for a military radio broadcast (AFRS Jubilee), and in their first TV appearance together on January 1, 1952, on The Frank Sinatra Show.
The Kult, an Intimate DTLA Venue
The Kult occupies a historic commercial building dating back to 1913. Over the past century, the structure transitioned from an early-century entertainment space into a modernized, multi-use cultural venue.
The interior retains its original industrial architecture, featuring exposed brick walls and heavy structural elements. It has been upgraded with contemporary production infrastructure, including high-fidelity sound systems, modular staging, and cinematic projection equipment.
The space features an intimate seating configuration that minimizes the physical distance between the stage and the audience. This layout accommodates live acoustic music, independent film screenings, art exhibitions, and private programming.
