California just scored two spots among the five highest-ranked pizzerias in the world, with one Los Angeles favorite and a San Francisco institution tying for No. 5 in the latest global ranking from 50 Top Pizza. The 2026 list was announced this week in Naples, Italy, ranking 100 pizzerias from around the world. London’s Napoli on the Road took the No. 1 spot, followed by New York’s Una Pizza Napoletana at No. 2.
But California made an especially strong showing near the top.
🍕 L.A. and San Francisco tie for No. 5
Pizzeria Sei in Los Angeles and Tony’s Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco both landed at No. 5, putting two California restaurants among the world’s highest-ranked pizza destinations.
For Pizzeria Sei, the result marks a jump from No. 9 in 2025. The West L.A. pizzeria is known for its Tokyo-influenced take on Neapolitan pizza, with highly hydrated dough, a light and airy crust and carefully selected Italian ingredients. The ranking’s inspectors highlighted the restaurant’s technical precision, minimalist setting and combination of Japanese influences with Italian pizza-making traditions.
Tony’s Pizza Napoletana also climbed several places, moving from No. 10 to No. 5. The North Beach restaurant, founded by pizza maker Tony Gemignani, is known for making multiple regional styles of pizza under one roof. According to 50 Top Pizza, the restaurant operates seven different ovens and serves 11 pizza styles, making it one of the more distinctive entries on the global list.
🌴 California has another top-50 entry

The Golden State didn’t stop with two restaurants in the top five. Truly Pizza in Dana Point landed at No. 26, earning recognition for its multi-level setting, outdoor dining and menu featuring both round and square pizzas.
The U.S. had 22 restaurants on the complete global list, second only to Italy’s 31. California’s two top-five spots are particularly notable because they represent two very different approaches to pizza: Pizzeria Sei’s Tokyo-meets-Neapolitan style in L.A. and Tony’s broad showcase of regional pizza traditions in San Francisco.
For Angelenos, that means one of the world’s highest-ranked pizzas is right here in Los Angeles, and apparently, you don’t have to go to Naples to find it.
