There’s nothing quite like California’s wild beauty, towering redwoods, rugged coasts, and desert sunsets that remind us why we love this state. In a world that moves fast and never stops buzzing, time in nature offers a rare chance to slow down and breathe. That’s exactly what California State Parks Week is all about.
Starting today until June 15, several parks in the state are hosting free events that invite the community to explore, recharge, and reconnect with nature, under the motto “This is where you live.”
L.A. County area highlights include an Evening Mindfulness Hike at Santa Susana Pass, guiding participants through a sensory walk that ends with a meditation in the Grotto. At Malibu Creek State Park, a Campfire Program with the Wildlife Learning Center offers a chance to see exotic animals up close.
Over 170 events will take place throughout the state. Folsom Lake State Recreation Area is offering free horseback rides and guided tours through the scenic Mississippi Bar area, perfect for first-timers or anyone without their own gear. While at Hearst San Simeon, visitors can explore the elephant seal rookery, where these massive marine mammals gather during their annual molt.
Beyond the fun of exploring California’s impressive outdoors and nature, the week emphasizes connection: to the land, to community, and to long-term stewardship. You can click here to check the full list of free experiences happening across California this week.
