Drivers traveling along the 405 Freeway through Sepulveda Pass should prepare for overnight closures and detours this week. Caltrans is carrying out construction work from Monday, November 2 through Friday, November 6 with nightly restrictions scheduled between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Crews will install concrete barriers and fresh asphalt along sections of the northbound and southbound freeway. The speed limit will also be reduced to 55 mph through construction zones.
Which 405 Freeway closures should drivers expect?
Depending on the night, commuters may encounter the following closures:
- Northbound 405: Up to two lanes closed between Sepulveda Boulevard and Victory Boulevard.
- Northbound 405: Up to four lanes closed between Wilshire Boulevard and Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive.
- Northbound 405: Getty Center Drive on- and off-ramps closed.
- Northbound 405: Up to five lanes closed between Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive and Sepulveda Boulevard.
- Southbound 405: Sepulveda Boulevard on- and off-ramps closed.
- Southbound 405: Up to four lanes closed between the 101 Freeway and Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive.
- Southbound 405: Burbank Boulevard on-ramp closed.
- Freeway connectors: Both the northbound 101-to-southbound 405 and southbound 101-to-northbound 405 connectors closed.
Why is the 405 Freeway closing?
The overnight work is part of Caltrans’ $143.7 million 405 Pavement Rehabilitation Project which covers the stretch between Van Nuys and Westwood.
The project aims to improve road safety, ease traffic flow, and extend the lifespan of the freeway pavement.
Drivers should allow extra travel time, watch for posted detours, and check Caltrans updates for the latest closures before heading out.
