Cambria, California is one of those rare Central Coast towns that still feels like a secret. The seaside village is perched right off Highway 1, almost exactly halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Things to do in Cambria, CA
After a long trip in the car, stretch your legs along the Moonstone Beach Boardwalk, a mile-long oceanside path that traces the rugged bluffs. Enjoy scenic ocean views, especially at sunrise and sunset, and keep an eye out for gray whales in season.
When you’re ready to wander inland, head to the East and West Village, Cambria’s twin downtowns packed with art galleries, antique shops, garden stores, and locally owned restaurants. This is where you can sip coffee at cute cafés, browse whimsical home decor, and enjoy a slice of olallieberry pie at Linn’s.
If you can’t get enough Pacific views, head to Fiscalini Ranch Preserve, which offers cliff-top paths through Monterey pines with sweeping ocean views, or head a bit south to Harmony Headlands State Park for a longer coastal hike. And if you drive a bit north toward San Simeon, you’ll reach the famous elephant seal rookery and historic sites like the Piedras Blancas Light Station and Hearst Castle, all easy additions to a Cambria weekend.
The perfect halfway road trip stop
Geographically, Cambria sits almost exactly between Los Angeles and San Francisco, about 3.5–4 hours from each city and roughly 220–230 miles in either direction. That makes it a natural midway point for a Highway 1 or 101 road trip.
