Chinatown’s evolving nightlife scene just gained another major addition with the arrival of Mitsi, a new cocktail bar and sushi lounge from Grammy-winning musician Ben Lovett of Mumford & Sons and his hospitality group Tvg.
The venue sits alongside Pacific Electric, a newly opened 750-capacity music venue also developed by Lovett and Tvg.
A new late-night destination in Chinatown
Designed as a neighborhood gathering space, Mitsi combines a full cocktail program, sushi counter, lounge seating, and outdoor patio into one large-format venue tucked inside Chinatown’s industrial corridor near the Metrolink tracks.
The opening continues Lovett’s growing hospitality portfolio, which includes cultural venues in London, Alabama, and now Los Angeles. According to Lovett, the goal behind both Mitsi and Pacific Electric was to create spaces centered around community, music, and nightlife rather than traditional nightlife exclusivity.
Inside the space
Mitsi occupies a dramatic high-ceilinged room with curved illuminated arches, lime-washed walls, vintage-inspired chandeliers, and plush lounge seating throughout the interior.
The interiors for both Mitsi and Pacific Electric were designed by Studio Collective.
Sushi, handrolls, and late-night bites
Chef Jon Kim leads the sushi program at Mitsi, with a menu focused on sashimi, nigiri, temaki, and small bar snacks.
Menu highlights include:
- Bluefin tuna
- Halibut
- Sea bream
- Yellowtail
- Amberjack handrolls
- Fatty tuna with caviar temaki
Smaller offerings like edamame are also available for groups ordering drinks.
Outside in Pacific Electric’s courtyard, Badmaash also operates a walk-up food window serving dishes like butter chicken tacos and chicken tikka poutine.
The cocktail program
The beverage menu focuses on riffs on classic cocktails alongside wine, sake, beer, and non-alcoholic options.
Signature drinks include:
- A 50/50 martini with tomato and cilantro
- A palo santo gin Negroni with prickly pear amaro
- An Old Fashioned made with amontillado sherry and miso honey
- A paloma with Aperol, watermelon radish, and passionfruit
The bar also offers biodynamic and organic wines, sake selections, and non-alcoholic drinks including the St. Agrestis Phony Negroni.
A focus on community
Lovett has emphasized preserving the character of the neighborhood throughout the project. Renovations to the buildings included structural upgrades, landscaping improvements, and preserving portions of the site’s original graffiti wherever possible.
Rather than positioning the venue as a celebrity-backed nightlife concept, Mitsi was designed to function as an accessible neighborhood lounge for Chinatown locals, concertgoers, and nearby residents.
